Autobiography of John Tait entitled "The days of the years of my life, volume 1". Covers the period 1842-1898 and written ca. 1902. Includes descriptions of early years in Geelong, 1851; detailed accounts of school life at Melbourne Academy 1852-1854, Scotch College 1855-1856 and 1859, and Geelong Grammar 1857-1858; his experiences as a bank clerk in various parts of Victoria, and his involvement with the Presbyterian Church. Volume contains photographs of his relatives, friends and buildings; and genealogical information. Also correspondence, 1852-1936, of Rev. James Thomson (grandfather of J.B. Tait) and family. Includes letters to Rev. James Thomson in Victoria from his brother John in Scotland, 1853-1885; letters from Rev. James Thomson in Emerald Hill, Vic. (ie South Melbourne) to his son John, 1882-1884; letters to James Thomson from his niece Jane Thomson, 1887-1889; miscellaneous letters, 1852-1936; and documents relating to the Tait family, 1817-1837.

John Tait was born in Parramatta, NSW, in 1842. He was the son of the Rev. John Tait, a Presbyterian minister. He married Margaret Agnes Thomson in Melbourne in 1885. She was the daughter of the Rev.
